Steve Kavanaugh – 1996 – Athlete of the Year

Steve Kavanaugh was a Canadian bronze medalist in senior ice dance in 1995 and 1996,  In 1996 he and his partner came second at Silver Medal Pentacup in Budapest. They placed fourth place at both the Karl Schafer Invitational in Vienna and the Nations Cup in Germany. They had ninth place finishes at both Skate America and Trophee de France Along with partner, Christine Fuller, Kavanaugh will represent Canada at Ice Dancing Competition in March, 1997. He competed for five years with partner, Janet Emerson, as part of the Canadian Figure Skating Senior team. Kavanaugh spent his formative years in Barrie skating at Mariposa Skating School and now travels between Toronto and Montreal. He attended Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie, Toronto’s Earl Haig Secondary School and graduated from Northview Heights in North York. he went on to study at Ontario College of Art and moved to Media Arts at Toronto’s Ryerson Polytechnical University Kavanaugh now coaches in both Toronto and Montreal and does television work in commercials and clothing modeling.

Adam Campbell was a Member of 1996 Ontario Under-17 hockey team which won a gold medal at the World Under-17 tournament. He was selected in second round (23rd overall) by Owen Sound Platers in 1996 Ontario Hockey League priority selection draft. growing up in Barrie, campbell was a member of Barrie Major Bantam AAA hockey team that won the OMHA Championship and a bronze medal at All-Ontario Kobe Cup tournament. He received three game MVP awards, won tournament MVP award and was the tournament’s leading scorer.

Andrew Stevenson was a member of 1996 Innisdale Invaders senior boys basketball team The team won Georgian Bay championships and the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations high school (AA) gold medal championships. He Averaged approximately 30 points per game was named senior basketball team’s Most Valuable Player for 1996 high school season. In 1996, Stevenson also played quarterback and slotback for Innisdale Invaders senior boys football team in 1996 and advanced to OFSAA regional meet in steeplechase and 3,000-metre races
