Amanda Truelove – 2006 – Athlete of the Year

Amanda Truelove’s past accomplishments include 4 time OFFSA medalist, 3 time National  Junior Champion in both the 1500m and 3000m Track and Field. In 2006 Amanda was undefeated in the 1500m and 3000m in all high school competitions and became OFFSA champion and Provincial Legion Champion. She set new OFFSA records in both events. Amanda was named to the Provincial Team and at the Nationals won gold in the 3000m, bronze in the 1500m and anchored the relay team to gold in the sprint medley. She was selected to compete at the IAAF World Youth Championships later this year in the Czech Republic. In addition Amanda helped her South Simcoe/Dufferin Track and Field Club cross country team by winning the silver individual medal and team gold medal at the Provincial Championships. Based on her results Amanda was named to the National Cross Country Team that that will represent Canada at the North America, Central America and Caribbean Cross Country Championships in Florida and the World Championships in Kenya. Amanda was in grade 12 at St Joan of Arc High School.

Megan Gibbs: Megan’s past accomplishments included being a member of Ontario’s National Championship Under19 womens rugby team, Canada’s under 19 and under 23 teams and OFFSA gold medalist and 3 time OFFSA medalist. In addition Megan was a member of the 2004 and 2005 OUA and  National  CIS Championship teams at University of Western. In 2006 Megan was named to Canada’s Senior Women’s Rugby Team as a lock and competed Internationally in Europe and North America. The highlight of her career was being name to represent Canada at the 2006 World Cup where the Team placed fourth overall.  Megan earned her first of 6 caps in rugby against England and was the youngest team member on the National Team.

Kirsten Sample: Her past rugby accomplishments have included being a member of Ontario’s National Championship Under 19 team and Canada’s Under 19 team and  2 time OFFSA gold medalist and 3 time OFFSA medalist. Kirsten was also a member of the Barrie Royals Provincial Basketball Championship Team. In 2006 Kirsten was named to Canada’s National Under 23 team, played for the Ontario Senior Womens National ChampionshipTeam, was starting scrum half on the Toronto Irish Provincial Championship Team and was starting scrum half for the National CIS Championship St Francis Xavier (STFX) Team. Kirsten was the only women in Ontario to have played on two National and one Provincial Championship rugby teams in 2006. She was also named game MVP and selected as an All Canadian All Star at the CIS Championships.
